This course is designed to give upcoming Surveyors, engineers and personnel in the surveying and construction sector a solid foundation on the principles and practical application of levelling across various applications. The course is focused in imparting practical skills  and experience of using deploying levelling equipment and undertaking professional levelling and reporting survey results effectively.

Objectives

At the end of the course, the participants should have an understanding of:

  • Levelling survey workflow, field data accuracy requirements
  • Setting up and using an automatic level
  • Booking and calculating levels using
  • Carry out a 2 peg test for level checks
  • Setting up and using a level and total station
  • Carry out a level survey on construction site  or as-built
  • Field observations with total station
  • Basic trigonometry
  • Correct taping procedures
  • Basic setting out calculations
  • Transfer a Temporary Benchmarks  and install a vertical control point network from survey first principles
  • Set up profile boards for level excavation
  • Set up profile boards for drainage
  • Set up batter rails for cut and fill
  • Measure the reduced level of ceilings and soffits
  • Setting out small projects using a total station and levels
  • Formation profiles

Requirements.

  • Have a training background in Surveying, Engineering and construction fields
  • Have a good understanding and working knowledge of maths, specifically:
    • Falls and gradients
    • Whole circle bearings
    • Working with degrees, minutes and seconds
    • Basic geometry
    • Basic angles
    • Basic trigonometry
    • Pythagoras
    • Co-ordinates
